Skin tone plays a genuine role in how a wedding outfit reads in person and in photographs, though the rules are far less rigid than most shopping guides suggest, and personal confidence often matters just as much as any technical colour theory applied to the decision.

Warmer undertones, with hints of gold or yellow beneath the surface, tend to glow beautifully against rich golds, deep oranges, warm reds and olive greens, colours that can look slightly flat or muddy against cooler undertones instead, where jewel tones like emerald, sapphire and fuchsia usually shine far more convincingly.

Rather than avoiding a colour entirely, adjusting its exact shade or pairing it with a more flattering contrast nearby, such as a different blouse colour or contrast border, often solves the problem without giving up on a shade you genuinely love wearing. Trying fabric against your face in natural daylight remains the most reliable test of all.
