Cotton Versus Linen for Everyday Desi Wear

Cotton and linen both promise comfort, but they behave quite differently once worn for a full day. Cotton is soft from the first wear, holds colour well and moves easily with the body, which makes it forgiving for kurtas and everyday salwar sets. Linen starts stiffer and generally takes a few washes to soften into something genuinely comfortable against the skin.
Where linen earns its reputation is breathability. Its looser weave lets air pass through more freely, which suits warmer climates and long days spent out and about. The tradeoff is that linen creases the moment you sit down, and while some people enjoy that lived in texture, others find it needs more ironing than they are willing to commit to on a busy morning.
For everyday desi wear, cotton is usually the more practical default, especially for anything that needs to survive a busy day and a quick, no fuss wash. Linen earns its place for occasions where a slightly more textured, relaxed look is the actual point, such as a casual daytime gathering rather than a formal one where creasing would matter.
