Dressing for a Daytime Haldi Function
Launch library · evergreen read

Haldi functions bring their own very particular dressing rules, since turmeric paste is applied generously and stains almost anything it touches within moments, regardless of how carefully guests try to avoid it during the ritual itself. Bright yellow or mustard toned outfits are the traditional, sensible choice, largely because they hide inevitable turmeric marks far better than pale or contrasting colours ever could.
Fabric should be chosen with the same practicality in mind as the colour itself. Simple cotton or a washable blend makes far more sense than delicate silk or heavily embellished fabric, since the outfit is genuinely likely to be stained and will need a proper wash immediately afterward rather than delicate professional cleaning.
Comfort matters enormously too, given that haldi functions are typically lively, playful and involve a fair amount of movement, laughter and mess among family and friends. A simple, well fitted kurta set or an easy cotton saree tends to suit the occasion's cheerful, relaxed energy far better than anything overly formal or restrictive.
