Skin undertone plays a genuine role in why gold seems to suit some people effortlessly while silver flatters others just as easily, though personal preference and the occasion itself matter just as much in the end. Warmer undertones, with hints of yellow or golden in the skin, often find gold sits particularly harmoniously against them.
Cooler undertones, leaning more pink or blue, frequently find silver or platinum tones create a similarly flattering, effortless harmony instead. Neither rule is absolute, however, and many people genuinely wear both tones beautifully depending entirely on the outfit's own colour palette and the occasion's overall level of formality.
Rather than committing permanently to one metal tone across an entire wardrobe, it is often more useful to think outfit by outfit. Deep jewel tones and traditional silks tend to lean gold, while pastels, whites and more contemporary fusion pieces frequently pair beautifully with the cooler shimmer of silver instead.
