Ironing Zari Work Without Scorching It

Zari embroidery is beautiful precisely because of its metallic thread, and that same quality makes it vulnerable to heat in a way plain fabric simply is not. Direct contact between a hot iron and zari work can scorch or discolour the metallic thread almost instantly, often before you even notice anything has gone wrong.
Always iron zari embellished fabric from the reverse side, with a thin cotton cloth placed between the iron and the embroidery as an extra protective barrier. A cooler setting than you would normally use, combined with steam rather than direct dry heat, further reduces the risk of visible, lasting damage.
For particularly delicate or heavily embellished pieces, a handheld steamer held slightly away from the surface is often the safer option altogether, avoiding direct contact completely. It takes a little longer than ironing, but the reduced risk to expensive embroidery makes the extra time genuinely worthwhile in the end.
