Sunlight is one of the more underestimated threats to festive fabric, gradually breaking down dye and fibre through prolonged exposure, even when a garment is simply hanging in a room that receives regular daylight rather than being worn outdoors for extended periods, a small consideration that experienced buyers rarely skip when the stakes are genuinely high.

Storing outfits away from windows and direct light, using opaque garment bags rather than clear plastic ones, and avoiding drying washed garments in direct sun are all simple habits that meaningfully slow down the fading process over months and years of storage between wears, a small but genuine act of foresight that tends to be rewarded later on.

Darker and more saturated colours generally show fading more visibly than lighter shades, making sun protection particularly important for deep reds, blues and blacks that form the backbone of many festive wardrobes. A little care here genuinely extends how vibrant a piece stays over time.
