Sweat marks are an unavoidable reality of festive dressing, particularly around the underarms and neckline of an outfit worn for a long, warm event with plenty of dancing or standing involved. Left untreated for too long, they can leave a visible stain or a slightly acidic residue that gradually weakens delicate fibres over repeated exposure.

A gentle solution of water and a small amount of mild detergent, dabbed rather than rubbed into the affected area, is usually the safest first step for most delicate fabric types. Testing on an inconspicuous inner seam first is always worth the extra minute, since some dyes react unpredictably even to genuinely gentle cleaning solutions applied directly.

For silk, chiffon or heavily embellished pieces, professional cleaning remains the safer route once a stain has properly set into the fibre and simple home treatment has not fully resolved it. Acting promptly after the event, rather than leaving a sweat marked outfit folded away for weeks, considerably improves the odds of a full recovery.
